Impunity: Causes and Effects

I’ve been spending countless hours working on this blog, it’s design and behavior. And it’s getting close to what I want it to be.
Besides working on my blog, I depend on the internet for so many other things, just like many of you. Banking. Communication. Information. Earning. Not to mention the limitless entertainment options available.

The internet has become essential. More than TV. More than the telephone, the car, the newspaper stand. It’s indispensable.

And so, to have a connection that works only partially, marginally, for days on end, is simply inadmissible.
Companies that provide this most important of services must have fail-safes, backups, alternative routes of connection.
Especially when the company is the biggest and offers the fastest services in the country.

Furthermore, if such an enormous problem exists where users are left completely in the cold, it must be communicated to the customers, so that they are informed, and they dont waste even more time trying to fix the problem on their end.

Finally, when calling Tech Support, they should immediately address and acknowledge the problem, and not behave like nothing is wrong and the user is simply an imbecile.

But this will never happen. Not in Brazil, where the alternative to this company is one that is much worse, to the point of being criminal. Not in a land where corruption and impunity reign free, and the people remain silent.

How can the people condemn a thieving government when it is the people who put them in office, it is the people who re-elected them, and it is the people, who in their shoes, would do exactly the same.

And with such elected officials, what else can we expect, but to be mired in never-ending problems?

So for wasting so much of my time. For making me miss deadlines. For making me waste money, I condemn… The Brazilian people. They are the ones who let thieves remain in the highest of offices in Government. They are the ones so easily manipulated by a demagogue and populist media. It is them who are proud of the so-called “little Brazilian way” of bending rules to one’s own advantage, of essentially practicing institutionalized corruption. They are to blame. The Brazilians are responsible for their own miseries, and for the failure of their country.

And while the “Little Brazilian Way” remains the order of the day, things will not improve. At best, they will decay slowly.

I just hope one day enough people get as fed up as I am and start being vocal. I just don’t think that day is coming any time soon. And so, I’m getting the hell outta here.
